Ricoh Digital
Interesting discussion @ Ricoh dpreview.com’s forum about the latest APS sensor Ricoh digital camera rumors.
“Good morning all,
and first congratulations for the nice work (was impressed by your exclusive hint on the Fuji forthcoming µ43 camera; as a S5 Pro user, it is little to say I was interested in these news…).
This message is motivated by the fact that I am aware of the «Ricoh solution» to appear by early November – I am not aware of the precise date of the announcement. It won’t indeed rest upon a µ43 mount but your subsequent assertion is just plain wrong; neither will it build upon any K-mount filiation. First remember that Ricoh is making cameras because they love pictures but that this remains a hobby; as you can feel from the GR series, they just feel free of having their own proper way of feeling photography, that at times leads to true innovations – as a matter of comparison, just look at the evolution of the G series cameras from Canon. They have just no incentives of any kind to re-package old-fashioned solutions. The Ricoh system to appear by early November is a breakthrough in digital photography; you want to hear about true innovations and not mere commercial increments, believe me: with the Ricoh approach, you will have a picture of nothing less than another understanding of photography for the digital age.“
Ricoh:
Letsgodigital also reports on a new Ricoh camera with APS-C sensor (previously reported here). 43rumors has some additional information and claims that Ricoh will come out with their own lens mount.
QUOTE:
New Ricoh System camera to be announced soon! : We have received information from various sources about an upcoming introduction of a new Ricoh system camera. The new Ricoh system camera has presumably been developed based on a digital camera without built-in mirror. This system has become very popular lately, thanks to the introduction of the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds system cameras, among others. Whether Ricoh is actually launching a so-called mirror-less system camera is yet to be seen, although early reports mention a possible release in November. The Ricoh system camera will most likely be equipped with an APS-C image sensor, similar to the Samsung NX10, which first appeared in the news at PMA 2009.
New Ricoh system camera?
It’s is not yet clear which mount Ricoh will come to use for the new digital system camera. There is talk of a Pentax K-mount or a new micro K-mount. The latter will come with an adapter to provide access to a broad selection of Pentax lenses. Ricoh is a camera manufacturer that needs to apply unique characteristics such as we saw earlier in the Ricoh GR Digital camera series, to make things happen for them. From this viewpoint, a new Ricoh system camera is very well possible. We will bring you the updates regarding the new Ricoh system camera as they become available.

Dear readers,
this time we do not publish Olympus or Panasonic rumor, we have a Ricoh rumor. But the thought it will interest you to know that Ricoh will become the first MicroFourThirds competitor. They will release a compact mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. How do we know that? Our trusted sources confirmed that (and also some new ones).
Quoting Gerd Waloszek:
From all what I learnt from this thread, I would make my personal summary as follows:
-
As several people reported the news from the show, I would say that there is some truth in it. Regrettably, some people blamed the reporters as “trolls”…
-
GRD/GX size seems to be confirmed, as is the APS-C sensor size
-
K-mount is NOT confirmed
-
Release date of 12th November seems to be confirmed. As that is fairly late for the Christmas business, this may explain the information “leak.” Using this leak, RICOH may want to keep some customers…
-
I read that two new lenses will be available with the body. This sounds plausible, but is not much… Hopefully, at least the GX focal range will be covered.
-
Last bit not least, I fear that the price will be beyond entry level DSLRs (as is for the Panasonic and Oly EVIL cameras) — this might be the reason that i will not find the camera below the Christmas tree…
Best regards, Gerd

- Me : Is a remplacement for the CX200 coming ?
- Ricoh guy : That’s the end of this line, we are going to issue a small interchangable lens system instead. It will have a APS-C sized type sensor.
- Me : Ah. It won’t be as small and pockable anymore then ?
- Ricoh guy : It will be as small as the GX.
- Me : How is possible ? The bigger the sensor, the bigger the camera, isn’t it ?
- Rigoh guy : It depend where is the sensor.
- Me : [!!! here it get totally crazy !!]
- Him : We invented something new, there is a trick in the design of the camera.
- Me : What lenses will it use, micro 4/3 ?
- Him : No, your own lenses. Official annoncement is 10 of november. It will hit the store early december.
